Donor Spotlight: Greg Royer

Greg Royer is an owner and Chairman of Royer’s Flowers and Gifts in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. From its humble beginning in the late 1930s, when Greg’s grandmother, Hannah, grew violets on her windowsill and sold them to neighbors to make extra money for the family — to today, serving central Pennsylvania with 17 stores along with three stores in Columbus, Ohio, the company has had quite a transformation. One might say Greg has been in the flower business since birth, as it was a family effort to run the business.
Greg first learned of AFE when his father, Ken, was on the board. Supporting AFE has been a long-term effort for the Royers, and Greg is proud to continue the effort.
Recently, the Ken and Jean Royer Family Fund was established through a bequest from the estate of Ken and Jean. It provides travel grants to support continued education for retail florists and promotes attendance and participation at in-person conferences and events. Greg and his wife Amy also made a generous gift to this fund, continuing a multi-generational legacy of giving back to the industry through the Endowment.
Greg has served in many capacities with AFE, giving back his time, talent, and expertise. He was appointed to AFE’s Board of Trustees in 2015 and has served on AFE’s Education Committee and Public Relations and Development Committee. Greg became the Education Committee Chair in 2017, and from 2021-2024, Greg took on the additional role of Treasurer/Secretary.
“I give to AFE as a way to continuously give back to the industry. Whether it’s providing funds for research, or scholarships and grants to encourage students to pursue a career in the floral industry, I know the money given will have a perpetual impact.” Greg said that having had the opportunity to speak with grant recipients and hear how that first grant had such a significant impact on their careers really brought light to the importance of having more opportunities for students to receive funds early in their educational journey.
