Issue 18 in October of 2023 marked the final edition of the Thrips and Botrytis Newsletter. All of us at AFE would like to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support over the past six years. It has been a remarkable journey, and together, we have achieved many milestones.
In 2017, with your support and suggestions, we embarked on a special research campaign aimed at confronting the challenges posed by Thrips and Botrytis. The havoc wreaked by these pests touches every facet of our industry, impacting the livelihoods of growers and businesses alike. The urgency of this issue was evident, and we knew that innovative solutions were needed.
Our goal was bold: to reach $1.5 million in pledges by 2019. We envisioned a future where new, effective strategies would combat Thrips and Botrytis, paving the way for thriving floral and horticultural enterprises. Thanks to the vision and generosity of 25 industry leaders and organizations, we achieved this goal, allowing us to fuel groundbreaking research to tackle these challenges head-on.
The impact of our collective effort is nothing short of impressive. With the pledged funds, we have supported 16 multi-year research projects. The results of these projects can help reduce losses, enhance crop quality, and ultimately make a significant difference in our industry’s landscape. It is not an exaggeration to say that these contributions have translated into real, tangible improvements in flower and plant production.
It is an achievement that we should all be proud of, as it exemplifies what the floral and horticultural community can accomplish when we unite in pursuit of a common goal. The dedication of each sponsor, the shared vision of a stronger industry, and the belief in the power of research to transform challenges into opportunities have brought us to this remarkable juncture.
