Fundraising Raffle: A Tuscany Doorway

Only 200 tickets available!

We're pleased to announce a fundraising raffle featuring a one-of-a-kind, canvas oil painting created and donated by longtime industry member Sarah Armellini!

Tickets for this beautiful 16 x 20 signed and framed painting are now available for a suggested donation of $100 each or a suggested donation of $900 for 10 tickets.

The winner of the raffle will be drawn during the Annual Fundraising Dinner on Sept. 7, 2017 at The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Fla., in conjunction with the Society of American Florists' Annual Convention.

'40 Days of Summer Giving' Ends August 18th!

Sakata Seed America teamed up with the Endowment for a "40 Days of Summer Giving" campaign in celebration of Sakata's 40th anniversary.


Until August 18th, contributions made to AFE will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Sakata up to $10,000.

More Than $36,000 Awarded in 2017 AFE Scholarships

Twenty students have been awarded scholarships this year totaling $36,500. Sixty applications were received for this 2017 scholarship cycle.

"We had many outstanding students apply for scholarships this year, which is why some scholarships were awarded to two recipients," said Dwight Larimer, AFE Chairman and Education Committee Chair.

AFE awards scholarships annually, and applications are due by May 1 of each year.

Behind Closed Doors: Plant Breeding in Corporations and Universities


What exactly inspires a breeder and how does that inspiration vary across the different environments of university, government or private enterprise?

Academic and corporate breeders share several aspects of their jobs in the plant industry. They are all very passionate about what they do and they are very creative people. They are all modest about their science, but they are all broadly trained. 

Most importantly, they all agreed that having vision and persistence to achieve goals were vital characteristics of good plant breeders.
