Two Students Awarded 2014 Paul Ecke Jr. $10,000 Scholarships

AFE generally only awards one $10,000 Paul Ecke Jr. M.S./Ph.D. Scholarship each year, but two applicants this year were too promising to pass up! Joshua Craver, who will soon begin a doctoral program at Purdue University, and Emma Lookabaugh, a doctoral student at North Carolina State University, both received the scholarship.

2014 Fundraising Dinner to Support Research, Educational Efforts

Ticket and sponsorships are available online for AFE's 2014 fundraising dinner on Aug. 14 at the Marco Island Mariott Beach Resort in Marco Island, Fla., held in conjunction with the Society of American Florists' annual convention. A number of different sponsorship levels are available, offering you the opportunity to visibly support AFE and the floral industry even if you cannot attend the dinner.

Getting a Dose of Flower Power at UC Davis

AFE Trustees visited the University of California, Davis in conjunction with their February board meeting and learned about Flower Power, a popular class taught by Professor Heiner Lieth, Ph.D. The class encourages students to take in interest in flowers in creative ways, but Lieth says the students have a strong message:  they say the industry is doing a terrible job overall of getting flowers into the hands of young people.
