Floral Plant Giveaway Aims to Boost Horticulture Enrollment

AFE and Altman Plants in Vista, Calif., supplied plants to North Carolina State University for a Floral Plant Give-Away Project (FPGAP)vin an effort to recruit new horticulture students. In the semester following the giveaway, 11 more students enrolled in horticulture classes, which can likely be attributed to the FPGAP.

Scholarship Winner Shares International Horticultural Internship Experiences

AFE's Markham-Colegrave International scholarship gave Brooke Gasteyer the opportunity to achieve her longtime goal of completing a horticulture internship in Europe. Her full report about the experience is available online. Students should apply by May 1 for the 2014 scholarship.

Meister Honored for Contributions to AFE

Richard Meister, Chairman Emeritus of Meister Media Worldwide, was presented with a crystal vase as a surprise recognition for his longstanding support of AFE and for establishing the Richard T. Meister scholarship in 2013. The scholarship is for graduate students, and applications are due May 1.

Memorial Tribute Established for Ed and Dorothy Niklas

A memorial tribute has been established within AFE honoring Ed and Dorothy Niklas. Ed, former president of Clackamas Greenhouses, Inc. in Oregon, died Sept. 16, 2013 at age 93, and Dorothy passed away Nov. 20, 2008. Donations to the tribute can be made online.
