La Fundaci\u00f3n ha sido parte de al vida de mi familia durante muchos a\u00f1os. Al seguir los pasos de mi padre, Del Demaree, ex presidente (1992-1993), recuerdo c\u00f3mo \u00e9l nos inculc\u00f3, a m\u00ed y a nuestra empresa, Syndicate Sales, la importancia de retribuir y aportar a la industria que tan bien nos ha servido. Servir a trav\u00e9s de AFE es la oportunidad perfecta para hacer ambas cosas.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">En 2021, la Fundaci\u00f3n cumplir\u00e1 60 a\u00f1os. Es todo un hito (y yo lo s\u00e9 bien, ya que yo tambi\u00e9n voy a cumplir esa misma edad). Al echar la vista atr\u00e1s a los \u00faltimos 60 a\u00f1os, vemos que hemos logrado much\u00edsimo. Hemos financiado m\u00e1s de $14 millones en investigaci\u00f3n, concedido casi $2 millones en becas y aportado m\u00e1s de $1,5 millones en subvenciones educativas. Miles de estudiantes, programas de investigaci\u00f3n universitarios, programas del sector y, en \u00faltima instancia, los consumidores se han beneficiado de la generosidad de personas y empresas que creen en la labor que realiza la Fundaci\u00f3n. Formar parte de ese legado es emocionante y, al mismo tiempo, me hace sentir humilde. Sin duda, el mundo de la floricultura ha cambiado en estos 60 a\u00f1os. Los avances en \u00e1mbitos como la tecnolog\u00eda y la protecci\u00f3n del medio ambiente han hecho que sea a la vez m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil y m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil cultivar y comercializar productos, as\u00ed como ofrecer a los consumidores una experiencia que deseen repetir una y otra vez.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Luego lleg\u00f3 la COVID. Si bien el mundo pareci\u00f3 detenerse por completo, nuestra industria experiment\u00f3 dos aspectos positivos. Primero, la COVID confirm\u00f3 lo que la mayor\u00eda de nosotros ya sab\u00eda: las flores y las plantas (tanto de cama como verdes) mejoran nuestra salud mental. Nos hacen felices, nos tranquilizan y reducen nuestro estr\u00e9s. \u00a1La trifecta para una vida mejor! Segundo, muchos floristas y centros de jardiner\u00eda experimentaron un aumento inesperado en sus ventas. Obligados a vivir lo que parec\u00eda el d\u00eda de la marmota en casa, los consumidores comenzaron a anhelar algo que los hiciera felices y redujera su estr\u00e9s, como trabajar en su jard\u00edn o comprar flores. Lo que la mayor\u00eda de los consumidores no sabe es que la investigaci\u00f3n realizada a trav\u00e9s de la AFE contribuy\u00f3 a la calidad del producto que compraron, y las subvenciones y becas otorgadas por la AFE ayudaron a capacitar a las personas que facilitaron la venta.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lo que hace la AFE es muy cr\u00edtico para la cadena de suministro de la industria y para las personas que participan en ella. Todo lo que hacemos gira en torno a la floricultura y la horticultura ambiental en beneficio de los productores, mayoristas, minoristas, organizaciones aliadas de la industria y el important\u00edsimo consumidor.
