This year, eight outstanding students will pursue a freshly awarded internship opportunity through AFE\u2019s <\/span>Vic & Margaret Ball Intern Scholarship Program<\/b><\/a> and<\/span> Programa de Becas para Pasantes Mosmiller<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p> It is without a doubt that the next generation plays a significant role in the long-term success of our industry. \u201cInvesting in young professionals ensures they\u2019re well equipped to bring lasting strength and innovation to the field. AFE\u2019s<\/span> Vic & Margaret Ball Intern Scholarship Program<\/strong><\/a> makes practical floriculture and horticulture experience and training more accessible, and we\u2019re extremely proud to be able to provide this opportunity every year,\u201d notes Dwight Larimer, Chairman of AFE\u2019s Vic & Margaret Ball Committee.<\/span><\/p> Not only will these students step closer to their passions, but they\u2019ll expand their industry knowledge and gain quality, hands-on experience to launch their early careers \u2013 bringing a fresh perspective to the industry. Congratulations, Interns!<\/span><\/p> \u00a0<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> Abigail is currently at the University of Missouri \u2013 Columbia and is majoring in Plant Science. Abigail was first introduced to the floral industry her freshman year of high school. She hopes to not only grow as a designer but to learn the behind the scenes of the business and what the product ordering process looks like.<\/span><\/p> Through the<\/span> Vic & Margaret Ball Intern Scholarship Program<\/a> and<\/span> Programa de Becas para Pasantes Mosmiller<\/a>. AFE helps place awarded students in a knowledgeable commercial production greenhouse, nursery, floral retail, wholesale, or allied industry company to train. Upon completion of the internships, AFE will publish student reports, and each student will receive a scholarship to help further drive success for their career and<\/em> the industry.<\/span><\/p> Additionally, Vic & Margaret Ball Interns will qualify for AFE\u2019s Paul Thomas Floriculture Production Intern of the Year Award. This prestigious honor includes paid hotel and airfare to Cultivate Conference, free registration to Cultivate<\/a><\/strong> (compliments of AmericanHort), $500 spending cash for the event week, networking and photo op with AFE representatives and Faculty members (if present) at Cultivate, and a feature article in AFE publications and trade press.<\/span><\/p> Interested students can<\/span> learn more and apply<\/strong><\/a> by October 1st<\/strong>\u00a0of each year. Alejandra Ruelas<\/strong><\/span> is completing a 3-month internship (May-August 2022) with Altman Plants.Scholarship award: $1,500.
<\/span>Alejandra is currently\u00a0attending Arizona State University and studying Sustainable Horticulture and Desert Food Production. Charles Crume<\/strong><\/span> is completing a 3-month internship (May-August 2022) at Neal Mast Greenhouses. Scholarship award: $1,500.
<\/span>Charles is majoring in Horticulture at Texas A&M University. Emily Betler<\/strong><\/span> is completing a 3-month internship (June \u2013 August 2022) at Metrolina Greenhouses.Scholarship award: $1,500.

Megan Grace-Ann Nelson<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>will complete a 6-month internship (January 2023 \u2013 July 2023). Location TBD. Scholarship award: $6,000.
<\/span>Megan is a student at\u00a0Kansas State University majoring in Horticulture Production and has a powerful passion for plants. Mitchell Rawson<\/strong><\/span> is completing a 6-month internship (May \u2013 November 2022) at Green Circle Growers.Scholarship award: $6,000.
<\/span>Mitchell is attending Iowa State University and majoring in Horticulture Greenhouse Plant Production. Growing up on a farm in Iowa, Floriculture and growing plants have always been a big part of Mitchell\u2019s life.
