Como agradecimiento final a la industria flor\u00edcola, los fondos restantes de FloraStar \u2014una asociaci\u00f3n cuyo prop\u00f3sito era desarrollar y promover nuevas variedades de plantas en maceta para el mercado\u2014 fueron donados a AFE durante el Curso Corto de la OFA de este a\u00f1o en Columbus, Ohio.
FloraStar se disolvi\u00f3 despu\u00e9s de 19 a\u00f1os exitosos cuando se determin\u00f3 que el valor \u00fanico del programa de premios FloraStar hab\u00eda disminuido debido al mercado r\u00e1pidamente cambiante.
Bob Humm, expresidente de FloraStar, y Gary Hudson, exdirector ejecutivo de FloraStar, entregaron un cheque por un importe de $36.318,50 al presidente de la AFE, Mike Mellano; al presidente electo, Red Kennicott; Sten Crissey, vicepresidente de desarrollo y relaciones industriales de la AFE; y a los miembros del consejo de administraci\u00f3n de la AFE, Dave Niklas y Bob Maddux, el lunes 14 de julio en el Centro de Convenciones de Columbus. Danny Takao, vicepresidente de FloraStar, tambi\u00e9n estuvo presente en la ceremonia en representaci\u00f3n de la OFA.
\u201cLa AFE cuenta con los programas m\u00e1s completos en materia de investigaci\u00f3n y becas de todas las organizaciones del sector floral\u201d, afirm\u00f3 Crissey. \u201cLa AFE cuenta con unos activos totales de casi $14 millones, y los fondos se invierten; los rendimientos de dichas inversiones se destinan a financiar la investigaci\u00f3n y a conceder becas en beneficio del sector. Esta donaci\u00f3n de FloraStar supondr\u00e1 un gran beneficio para el sector, y les damos las gracias por ello\u201d.\u201d
Gary Hudson y Bob Humm desean agradecer a todos los antiguos miembros de la junta directiva, funcionarios, a Mike Novovesky, quien se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como director ejecutivo, a los obtentores y a las ubicaciones de ensayos que participaron en el programa FloraStar durante tantos a\u00f1os.
