Attendees of the 2026 CalFlowers Fun ‘N Sun Convention were treated to a surprise announcement during the American Floral Endowment (AFE)<\/strong><\/a>-sponsored Friday morning breakfast on August 7, when AFE presented CalFlowers, newly renamed American Floral Alliance, with the 2026 Ambassador Award. The award was presented by AFE Trustee Gustavo Gilchrist, of Kennicott Brothers Company, and AFE\u2019s Manager of Communications, Karin Krause, in recognition of the American Floral Alliance\u2019s (AFA) exceptional leadership, collaborative spirit, and longstanding commitment to advancing the Endowment’s mission. AFA\u2019s Board Chair Robin van der Schaaf and President Lane DeVries accepted the award on behalf of the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established in 2023, the American Floral Endowment\u2019s Ambassador Award recognizes individuals, organizations, and institutions that exemplify exceptional leadership, partnership, and dedicated service to the Endowment. Selected through a nomination process led by AFE\u2019s Board of Trustees, recipients serve as ambassadors for the Endowment by championing research, education, scholarships, internships, and innovation that strengthen the future of floriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many years, AFA has been one of the Endowment\u2019s most valued industry partners, working collaboratively to advance initiatives that benefit the floral industry. Through active engagement, promotion of AFE’s research and scholarship programs, and generous financial support, AFA has helped expand the reach and impact of the Endowment’s work while strengthening opportunities for the entire industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Floral Alliance has consistently invested in programs that create long-term impact. The organization has sponsored several Floral Marketing Fund (FMF)<\/strong><\/a> consumer research projects, helping generate valuable insights for the industry, and is a founding partner of Sustainabloom<\/strong><\/a>, AFE’s sustainability initiative dedicated to providing practical, research-driven resources for floral businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organization’s commitment to developing future industry leaders is also reflected through the CalFlowers Frank Biddle Memorial Scholarship Fund<\/strong>, which provides scholarship opportunities while honoring the legacy of one of California’s most respected floral leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This longstanding partnership has been guided by the leadership of AFA\u2019s Board of Directors and President Lane DeVries, while being supported every day by the talented and dedicated AFA staff. Together, they have fostered a culture of collaboration that has strengthened the relationship between the two organizations, encouraged industry participation, and expanded awareness of the Endowment\u2019s programs throughout the floral community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond financial support, AFA leaders have also provided invaluable volunteer leadership to the Endowment. Over the years, numerous individuals affiliated with the organization have served as AFE Trustees, helping shape the Endowment’s strategic direction and strengthen partnerships that benefit the floral industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
