The floral industry thrives on beauty, creativity, and connection, but behind the scenes, progress depends on something just as vital: sustained investment in research, education, and people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For 65 years, the American Floral Endowment has quietly but powerfully fueled that progress.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1961,<\/strong><\/a> AFE was created by industry leaders who understood that the future of floriculture could not be left to chance. Our vision is simple, yet bold: fund the research and educational opportunities needed to keep the industry strong for generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That vision has resulted in more than $23 million<\/strong> invested in research, scholarships, internships, and educational grants: support that has advanced science, opened doors for students, and strengthened businesses across the floral supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imagining an Industry Without AFE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s worth pausing to imagine what the industry might look like without that investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without research funding, innovation would slow. Growers would face greater challenges without new solutions to pests, diseases, and sustainability concerns. Without scholarships and internships, fewer students would discover careers in floriculture. Without educational grants, professional growth opportunities would be more limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AFE\u2019s work has helped ensure that the floral industry is not only surviving, but also evolving. Sustainability is just one way our industry continues to move forward. Without continued investment in sustainability education, the industry would face growing challenges with fewer shared tools to address environmental responsibility, workforce needs, and shifting consumer expectations. Through Sustainabloom<\/a>, our hub for practical sustainability education, AFE is helping ensure businesses across the floral supply chain have access to research-based guidance that supports responsible growth today and prepares the industry for what comes next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why the Next Chapter Matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As we celebrate our 65-year milestone, it also reminds us of an important reality: the cost of doing this work continues to rise. Research is more complex. Educational programs require greater resources. Supporting the next generation takes sustained commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, out-of-industry funding sources that once helped support this work are no longer reliable. The path forward is clear – the floral industry must invest in itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
