D. falleci\u00f3 el 26 de octubre de 2018 a la edad de 83 a\u00f1os.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El Dr. De Hertogh fue un investigador y experto en la industria de renombre internacional, espec\u00edficamente por revolucionar el forzado de bulbos como plantas en maceta a escala mundial. Se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como el primer Coordinador de Investigaci\u00f3n de la AFE de 1999 a 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gus creci\u00f3 en Chicago y comenz\u00f3 su carrera en el vecino estado de M\u00edchigan, en la Universidad Estatal de M\u00edchigan, en 1965. Aqu\u00ed trabaj\u00f3 con exportadores holandeses para abordar los desaf\u00edos relacionados con los bulbos de flores. En ese momento, a\u00fan no era posible controlar eficazmente la floraci\u00f3n de los tulipanes u otros bulbos tras el env\u00edo transoce\u00e1nico desde los Pa\u00edses Bajos, el mayor productor del mundo. Pusieron en marcha lo que se conoce como el Proyecto de Bulbos de Flores, un esfuerzo de colaboraci\u00f3n entre la Asociaci\u00f3n de Exportadores de Bulbos de los Pa\u00edses Bajos y el Departamento de Horticultura de la Universidad Estatal de M\u00edchigan. Durante los siguientes 35 a\u00f1os, continuar\u00eda investigando sobre los bulbos de flores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En 1978, Gus se mud\u00f3 a Raleigh, Carolina del Norte, donde ocupar\u00eda el cargo de director del Departamento de Ciencias Hort\u00edcolas en la Universidad Estatal de Carolina del Norte durante los siguientes 10 a\u00f1os. Todo ese tiempo, continu\u00f3 su investigaci\u00f3n sobre bulbos de flores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/imported-files\/IMG_3165-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10958\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Como Coordinador de Investigaci\u00f3n en AFE, Gus ayud\u00f3 a establecer y supervisar el proceso de revisi\u00f3n de propuestas de investigaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s exhaustivo de la industria.
