{"id":1364,"date":"2019-09-23T22:53:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-23T22:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/afe.epicenter1.com\/news\/afes-fundraising-dinner-celebrates-industry-success"},"modified":"2024-03-15T22:02:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T22:02:52","slug":"afes-fundraising-dinner-celebrates-industry-success","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/endowment.org\/es\/news\/afes-fundraising-dinner-celebrates-industry-success","title":{"rendered":"AFE\u2019s Fundraising Dinner Celebrates Industry Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/imported-files\/1c36fa6c-c2db-4bb0-8866-68f516bc6c23-scaled.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"281\" align=\"right\" data-file-id=\"739953\">The AFE 43rd Annual Fundraising and Recognition Dinner was held during the SAF Annual Convention in Amelia Island, Florida on Thursday, September 19, 2019.<\/p><p>The evening was full of excitement as AFE reported on program and research success stories.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/es\/two-new-named-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Two new named funds<\/a>\u00a0(The\u00a0Retail Florist\u2019s Continued Education Fund\u00a0Sponsored by\u00a0Bob and Carol Sharpe and The Garcia Family Fund)\u00a0were announced and donors reaching new giving-levels were recognized.<\/p><p>During the evening, AFE reported on meeting the $1.5 million goal for The Thrips and Botrytis Research Campaign and also on the new consumer marketing studies funded by the Floral Marketing Research Fund (FMRF.)<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/imported-files\/d63d7d7f-f07a-4486-8889-924d0df6f98c-scaled.jpg\" width=\"190\" height=\"257\" align=\"left\" data-file-id=\"739989\">The highlight of the evening was AFE\u2019s\u00a0<strong>\u201cFill the Vase\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0campaign.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/es\/afes-fill-the-vase-fundraiser\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This campaign<\/a>\u00a0was created on the concept of individual flowers coming together to make a beautiful, full vase; individual industry members coming together to make a difference in the industry\u2019s future by making a contribution to AFE of any amount.<\/p><p>During the dinner, every attendee received a single rose. Each rose represented the person filling the seat \u2014 a member of the floral industry. The industry really came\u00a0together as the\u00a0attendees placed their roses tied with their donation cards into a vase, to create beautiful arrangements.<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/imported-files\/d67b8bdf-dda5-44b1-9145-006fd638adb2-scaled.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" data-file-id=\"739965\">Tim Noble, President of Hortica Insurance announced a gift match for the first $5,000 donated as a part of the dinner contributions! Dr. Marvin Miller of Ball Horticultural Company quickly followed suit on behalf of Ball to create an additional $6,000 gift match from their company.<\/p><p><strong>Both the matches were met, and in total\u00a0over $41,000 was pledged as a part of the Fill the Vase campaign in just one night.<\/strong><\/p><p>The Fill The Vase fundraising campaign will continue through December, so even if you weren\u2019t there, you can still help fill our metaphorical vase by making a donation at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endowment.org\/donate.<\/a><\/p><p>Smithers-Oasis\/Floralife\u00a0announced their commitment to a third-year gift-match of $20,000 for AFE\u2019s year-end campaign. Help us reach this goal!<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/imported-files\/290b5534-d495-4956-87c0-121a784d3e36-scaled.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" data-file-id=\"739961\">AFE also announced new Officers and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/es\/afe-appoints-new-trustees-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trustees to the Board<\/a>. Randy Tagawa of Tagawa Greenhouses will serve as Secretary\/Treasurer as Laura Shinall of Syndicate Sales moves into her new role as Chairman-Elect.<\/p><p>Dr. Megan Bowman of Ball Horticultural Company and Gustavo Gilchrist of Kennicott Brothers Company were welcomed as new members of the AFE Board. Dr. Marvin Miller of Ball Horticultural Company and Ken Altman of Altman Plants were honored as they completed their term on the Board.<\/p><p>More than 45 industry organizations served as sponsors of this year\u2019s event that helped offset dinner expenses.
