The Christian B. Nissen Research Fund was created in 2009 with a $50,000 contribution from Christian’s parents, Ole and Eleanor Nissen, to honor Christian.
Christian grew up in the family business – Sunshine State Carnations in Hobe Sound, Florida – with his father and two younger brothers, Peter and Eric. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in horticulture, and also took some post graduate courses at Texas A & M and the University of Florida. Working in the administrative end of the business, he was also involved in decisions concerning planting and labor issues. He had an interest in both the growing and research sides of the business.
Sadly, Christian passed away in 1992 at the age of 36.
