What Personally Identifiable Information is Collected
AFE donors, and other website visitors who sign up for AFE’s newsletter, voluntarily provide us with contact information (such as name and email address) and when you register to use any of our services – scholarship, research, internships and grant applications – or make an online contribution. We use this information internally for providing personalized service.
How Your Information May Be Used
We use collected information to operate and improve the site and our services, to develop new programs, to understand and analyze aggregate metrics such as the number of visitors or page views, to provide information and services to you or otherwise communicate with you, to solicit charitable donations, and in any other manner described to you when the information is collected, or to which you give your consent.
How We Disclose Information
We may disclose aggregate and non-personal information (such as the number of visitors to our site) for any purpose. We may disclose your personal information (i) as we reasonably believe is required by law or judicial process, or to otherwise cooperate with law enforcement or other government agencies, (ii) to protect the safety, rights, or property of ourselves or others, (iii) to protect ourselves or others from legal liability or from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful activity, (iv) to investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations, and (v) to protect the security of the site and the services. We may also disclose personal information in any manner to which you consent, or to any acquirer of the endowment’s assets, such as occurs in a merger, sale of assets, or bankruptcy.
We send an electronic newsletter, AFE Bulletin, quarterly to our donors. The newsletters are sent to your preferred address. You may choose to opt out at any time, which will cease communications from us.
Credit Card Account Information
AFE utilizes secure transaction methods (SSL) when collecting credit card information over the Internet. AFE does not disclose to third parties credit card account information provided by its donors.
Internet Protocol (IP) addresses
AFE uses your Internet Protocol (IP) address for statistical metrics used to track website visitor traffic.
Cookies are small bits of code that are sent to your computer when you logon to a website that allows us to identify you when you return to the site. The Center uses “cookie” messages to automatically help provide better services. They remind us who you are and your preferences for our website based on what you’ve done and told us before. The “cookie” is placed on your computer and is read when you come back to our website. Cookies let us take you to the information and features you’re particularly interested in. They also let us track your usage of www.endowment.org, so we know which parts of our sites are most popular. You can reject cookies or cancel them by instructing your web browser accordingly.
Although we use safeguards designed to improve security, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. We cannot guarantee that information you provide to us will not be accessed, viewed, altered, disclosed, or destroyed by unauthorized persons.
You may adjust your mailing preferences or unsubscribe from our email list by clicking the appropriate links in email you receive from us. You may also decline to share information with us, or may use features provided by your device or web browser to delete cookies or block other data collection mechanisms; but in that case, we may be unable to provide some features of the site or services to you. We do not specifically respond to browser “do not track” features. If you choose to provide additional information about yourself or about third parties during your use of the site, you represent that you have the authority to provide such information to AFE.
Survey and Polls
From time to time, we may conduct surveys and/or interactive polls to see what our donors think about important issues or to better target our funding programs. Participation in the surveys and/or polls is optional. Opinions and responses are not identifiable to any particular user. We may share aggregated demographic information with partners or supporters. We never share any information about specific individuals with any third party.
No Commercial Advertisements
The American Floral Endowment is a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible organization supported by charitable donations. We solicit and collect such charitable donations through the site, but do not advertise commercial products or services, or share your personal information with third parties for commercial marketing purposes.
