Robert C. Dewey Memorial Tribute

A Memorial Tribute has been established within the American Floral Endowment honoring Robert C. "Bob" Dewey, who died on January 17, 2004, at the age of 88. His long floral career was identified with the Pennock Company and in his memory, the Pennock Company established the Memorial Tribute.

In 1938, he graduated from the University of Massachusetts with his degree in Horticulture and Landscape Floriculture. During World War II, Mr. Dewey served in the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troop for the U.S. Army.

In 1939, S.S. Pennock Company in Boston, MA hired Mr. Dewey as a truck driver. During his tenure he rose through the ranks to become President and Chairman of the Board retiring in 1984.

He was among the very first wholesalers to bring fresh cut flowers to the U.S. market from Colombia through a close relationship with Edgar Wells and the Herrera brothers located in Bogotá.

Mr. Dewey served as a founding member of the Wholesale Florist and Florists Suppliers Association and served as its first President from 1961-1963. He was active in the Society of American Florists and is a member of the Florists Floriculture Hall of Fame.

Mr. Dewey was known by some of his close friends as, "Mr. Endowment". He gave tirelessly of his time, talents and treasures to the Endowment. He served on the American Floral Endowment Board of Trustees from 1980-1989, and was Chairman in 1989.

Survivors include his wife (Elizabeth), and daughter Jane Dewey of Newfane, Vermont. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Tina Jabs, Rebecca Conrad, and Jennifer Boyer; and four great grandchildren, Garrison Jabs, Jamison Jabs, Daniele Conrad, and Erika Boyer.
