England Internship Provided by Endowment - 2003
Julianna Chapman was awarded the first Harold F. Wilkins Scholarship from the American Floral Endowment. This program was established by a major gift from Dr. Harold F. Wilkins in an effort to promote his life-long pursuit of promoting educational floriculture opportunities for students in foreign countries. Julianna recently completed an internship at a large retail florist in Cambridge, England (Fulbourn Manor Nurseries). During her internship she created floral designs for everyday, funerals, wedding, and special occasions, assisted customers, operated a cash register, created sales displays, processed flowers, assisted with deliveries, gift wrapped plants and priced merchandise. She indicated that her floral design skills were vastly improved, especially in the areas of European hand-tied bouquets, funeral sprays, wreaths, funeral tributes, baskets, gift-wrapping bouquets, and flowers to wear. Quoting Julianna, the experience, "taught me how to deal with the various stresses involved with floral designs, confirmed my career plans of working in a large floral design shop specializing in weddings and special occasion work, and excited me to learn more about floral design. My internship at Cambridge has been a stimulating, enriching experience giving me confidence and a well-rounded view of the world of floristry".
