Bud Lipinski Memorial Tribute

A Memorial Tribute has been established within the American Floral Endowment honoring Bud Lipinski, who died July 7, 2000, in Oro Valley, Arizona. The tribute was established by Mr. Tom Butler, President of American Floral Services, Inc., "Bud was ‘one of a kind’. He was an advocate for the sympathy business and was instrumental in strengthening the communication between the floral, funeral, hospital and newspaper industries.

Bud’s career in the floral industry started at the age of 12 when he designed his first funeral arrangement in his parents’ flower shop in Detroit, Michigan. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, Bud returned and purchased his parents’ flower shop in 1945. In 1960, he sold the flower shop that he had expanded into two shops due to his allergies to flowers.

His allergies did not keep him from the floral industry. He spent the next three decades deeply involved in the floral industry. His career included employment at Century Florists' Supply Company, Detroit, Michigan, Florists' Transworld Delivery Association, and Executive Secretary of the Allied Florists of Metropolitan Detroit. Through his remarkable efforts, Bud was able to virtually omit the phrase, "In-lieu-of-flowers…" from being used in Detroit newspapers. He was recognized for his efforts by Michigan State Floral Association's presentation of the Meritorious Service Award.

In 1987, he joined American Floral Services, Inc. as Vice President of Industry Development Services. He had become a sympathy advocate nationwide and was instrumental in bringing florists and the funeral industry closer together.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary, and their children Camille, Carol, Tim and Thom.
