Arlene Sorenson – Honored by an American Floral Endowment Living Tribute
Floral & Nursery Times recently established a Living Tribute within the American Floral Endowment honoring Arlene Sorensen. Floral & Nursery Times, a leading publication for the floral industry traditionally establishes a special tribute each year for its Crystal Star Award for Distinguished Service recipient.
During Sorensen's successful career, she has tirelessly given her time and financial support to help improve the entire floral industry through active involvement in floral organizations, trade associations and community-based organizations. She is the current President of the Lincoln Wholesale Florists, a company that was established in 1954 as a partnership between Arlene and her husband Harold, and her parents.
She is the current President of the Wholesale Florist and Florist Supplier Association (WF&FSA), a past member on the SAF Board, and a board member and past president of the Nebraska Florists Society.
>Sorensen's history of industry involvement has resulted in numerous honors and awards. In addition to the Floral & Nursery Times Crystal Star Award, she received the University of Nebraska College of Administration Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1997, the University of Nebraska Business Leadership Award in 1996, the Nebraska Florist Society Hall of Fame Award in 1996, the Award of Merit for Industry by AIFD in 1996, the Lincoln Independent Business Award in 1994 and the Small Business Administration Achiever Award in 1990.
The American Floral Endowment is the floral industry's largest non-governmental, not-for-profit research and educational development funding source serving the needs of all industry segments. Funding dollars are made possible through tax deductible-private contributions. Since 1961, AFE has allocated over $9 million to R&D efforts to develop and improve the industry.
A Living Tribute established through the American Floral Endowment provides a way to honor friends and associates in a special and lasting manner. A $1,000 contribution establishes a tribute. Once established, contributions can be made in any amount. To contribute to the Arlene Sorensen Living Tribute, send a check so designated to the American Floral Endowment. The honoree is always notified. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, all contributions to AFE are tax deductible.
