American Floral Endowment Update - Fall 2002
Juliana Chapman Awarded the First Harold F. Wilkins Scholarship
The Harold F. Wilkins Scholarship Program was established in 2001 through a trust agreement from Dr. Wilkins. Throughout his career as a Professor of Floriculture at the University of Minnesota, he promoted educational
opportunities to students for international travel. He is an avid believer that foreign travel provides students with unique, lasting floricultural experiences.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a U.S. citizen, enrolled or recently graduated from a university or college with a degree in horticulture and/or a closely related course o study, and intend to further a career in floriculture by traveling outside the U.S. for at least a 90-day period.
Julianna Chapman, first recipient of the Harold F. Wilkins Scholarship, is completing a retail floral internship in Cambridge, England, at Fulbourm Manor Nurseries flower Shops.
Endowment presents Jim Botsis Wholesaler’s Educational Program
The Jim Botsis WholesalerÕs Educational Program at the American Floral Endowment recently sponsored an educational session titled “Facing the Forces of Change, Part II” at the Wholesaler Florist & Florist Supplier Association (WF&FSA) convention.
More than 400 wholesalers listened as Michael Marks conducted the session. Mr. Marks has more than 20 yearsÕ consulting experience and was instrumental in developing the “Facing the Forces of Change” study. This is a landmark wholesale future trends study pioneered by the National Association of Wholesalers, and it was the first time the study results have been presented. Understanding the results will enable wholesalers to make business decisions to improve their profitability.
Additional educational programs benefiting the wholesaler will be sponsored with the funds contributed to this program over the next nine years. If you have an idea for a program or want to learn more about how to establish a similar program, contact the American Floral Endowment.
