Progress Report to the American Floral Endowment, 3/1/92

A. Project Objectives:

The overall objective of our research is to elucidate the role of fungus gnats

and shore flies as aerial vectors of bacterial pathogens which cause foliar

diseases of greenhouse crops.

B. Summary of Work Conducted, and

C. Results to Date:

No information suitable for dissemination has been achieved to date. We

only recently initiated research relative to the above objective. Grant funds

necessary for conduct of the research was received on February 10, 1992.

D. Future Plans Covered by the Endowment Grant:

To complete the specific objectives presented in our proposal.

E. Anticipated Benefits for Floral Industry:

Knowledge of the role of shore flies and fungus gnats in the epidemiology of

foliar bacterial pathogens will result in recognition of the necessity for the

control of greenhouse infestations by these insects.
